Sunday Contenders
A quick look at the Contenders heading into the final round of this weeks Korn Ferry Event
Leaderboard:
Cameron Young -15
Dawie van der Walt -13
Lorens Chan -12
Nick Hardy -12
Vince India -12
Cameron Young- Became a Korn Ferry member via a single Monday qualifier last year. Finished T11 after Monday qualifying into Pinnacle Bank Open in August. That earned him a spot into the following week where he finished T14. The T14 finish again earning him a spot into the next week and another top-10. Once again earning him a spot in the following week, where he finished runner-up and earning membership. A win would put him 26th in points for the season. Top 25 earn PGA Tour cards
Dawie van der Walt- He has won two times on European Tour, two times on the Sunshine Tour and two times on the Korn Ferry Tour. He is currently 65th on the points list, so a good Sunday will go a long way in securing a spot in the Korn Ferry Finals. In 2018 his home in Houston was almost a complete loss during devastating floods in the area. For months he and his family had to live out of the top floor of their home. His out-of-pocket costs exceeded $250,000. Some current and former Tour players helped raise money to help him get back on his feet.
Lorens Chan- Chan has struggled this year and is currently 185th in Korn Ferry Points. With the extended season it is so difficult to move up and down the points list. Even with a win here Chan wouldn't move into the top 75 in points. It might give him the freedom to take some chances knowing it is all upside. He is coming off his best finish of the year last week at Knoxville with a T27. In 2019 he had a great year in Canada, including a three tournament stretch where he finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. He finished fourth on the OOM and earned his KFT card.
Nick Hardy- Hardy started his week by heading to Oklahoma to pick up his friend Patrick Flavin and drive him to the Monday qualifier. He then helped him prep during the practice round. Seems the good karma has helped, as he is just four back. A win would officially lock up his Tour card for next yr. Has had a great year including two PGA Tour Monday Q’s where he made the cut in both events.
Vince India- Has one of the most amazing (and obscure) stats that I know of. India successfully got through 1st and 2nd and earn a spot in final stage at Korn Ferry Q-school in six consecutive years. It’s a record that won’t be broken in my opinion. In 2019 he made a double bogey on the last hole, in the last event of the regular KFT season. The double knocked him out of the top 75 that would have earned him a spot in the Korn Ferry Finals. He is currently 62nd in points, like van der Walt a good finish would lock his spot in the finals in.
The Rest:
Derek Ernst- The former PGA Tour winner who has struggled badly since his only win. He is in contention for the first time this year.
Greyson Sigg- Last weeks winner is again in contention, as he continues his great season. Although he is six back, has an outside chance to go back-to-back.
Jeremy Gandon- In his first ever KFT start the Monday qualifier is have a great week so far and is T6. He made an eagle on the final hole of Monday qualifier to get into the field.
